We started RootsBound
to document our own histories.
Our Guiding Principles
I. Honoring Our Stories
Throughout the world, discovering and passing down our ancestors’ stories connects families and communities, continues traditions, and helps us honor the stories of our heritage.
For friends (and co-founders) Lauren and Melinda, taking on genealogical research projects has carried history, tradition, and kinship across continents and into their own homes. This appreciation for the power of what a story can do — and an appreciation for the multi-faceted lives of the people who came before us — is threaded into every project RootsBound takes on.
Our work includes peering through hundreds of genealogical documents — from marriage certificates to newspaper articles to first-hand accounts and beyond. We perform exhaustive research, working directly with historical societies, local libraries, town clerks, and many others to ensure no stone is left unturned. We coalesce this research with historical context in order to make sense of the lives our ancestors lived.
II. Research Beyond Bounds
III. Uncompromising Standards
We believe in doing things right rather than quick. Our research is meticulously organized, and our products are beautifully-designed and optimized to last a lifetime.
We follow the Genealogical Proof Standard, as follows:
-
Reasonably exhaustive research has been conducted.
-
Each statement of fact has a complete and accurate source citation.
-
The evidence is reliable and has been skillfully correlated and interpreted.
-
Any contradictory evidence has been resolved.
-
The conclusion has been soundly reasoned and coherently written.
